Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully you´ll find the answer to your question here but if not, please feel free to contact me by email at pocolocostudios@gmail.com - many thanks, Catherine

  • Is your studio and gallery open for visitors?
Meeting other people interested in art and my paintings is always a lovely experience. I appreciate that sometimes, for those living locally or visiting the area, seeing the art in person is a great way to connect and select the right piece for what they have in mind. This is possible by appointment - it gives me a little time to tidy up a bit too! It's nice being able to share my creative space and process first hand. If this is something you would like to do, please contact me.
  • What mediums do you use to create your original paintings?
I am a mixed media artist which basically means I use several mediums through a number of layers. Generally I start with charcoal, pencil, acrylic, either heavy/soft body paints and acrylic inks. As the process continues, I may decide to add some texture by using homemade collage papers or moulding paste. Towards the end, I sometimes like to add a touch of oil pastel and maybe some gold leaf.
  • Are your paintings framed?
It depends on the piece and the substrate used. All details about whether the painting is being sold framed or not are included in the details for the painting. I like to frame smaller works so that they are ready to hang. I paint on canvas, cradled wood panels and heavy weight cotton paper. The wood panels are finished on the edges generally with a plain colour to compliment the painting or a traditional black for contemporary paintings. These don't necessarily need framing. Larger canvas works are sold unframed. This is because some may need to be dismantled and rolled to ship which is safer for the artwork. These paintings need to be taken to a professional framer to be re-stretched when you receive it. Please contact me if you would like bespoke advice or have any further questions – framing can be an art in itself!
  • Will my painting be ready to hang?
Wherever possible, they will arrive ready to hang with cords/D-rings or a single crocodile tooth hanger attached to the wood frame. If the painting is on canvas and needs to be shipped rolled, these will not include hanging furniture. The framer will be able to add these for you once the painting has been re-stretched onto the stretcher. Information for each painting is detailed in its description.
  • Purchasing with a deposit
Buying original artwork is something we rarely do every day. When buying a statement piece or larger painting, sometimes spreading the cost can be a helpful option. Please contact me to discuss this before purchasing a painting. You can reserve the painting with a 50% deposit. The balance can be paid in either one further payment or 2 monthly payments of 25% each within a reasonable mutually agreeable timescale. The only payment method for this is via bank transfer or Paypal. This is an informal agreement based on the understanding that a deposit will secure your artwork and you will be required to pay the remaining balance.Usual shipping costs and return policy will apply.
  • Can I purchase your work with a different payment plan?
Yes, that can be arranged. For any work over €500 you can pay in instalments. Please send me a message and we can work out an arrangement that suits you. The only payment method for this is via bank transfer or Paypal. As soon as the final payment is made, your work will be shipped to you.
  • How will my painting be wrapped?
It varies depending on the size and substrate. I go to great lengths to carefully pack your artwork using corner protection, bubble wrap and cardboard - although I try to limit the amount of plastic used. Unfortunately, it's not great for the planet but very good for protecting artwork. Each one is unique so I take care that it is well protected to arrive in perfect condition. Large canvas may need to be deconstructed and sent rolled in a sturdy mailing tube along with the stretcher frame ready for a framer to restretch. For further details about delivery please see the Shipping details.
  • I fell in love with a painting on your website but it's already sold. How can I keep up to date as and when new paintings are added?
Some pieces sell very quickly. I´d love you to join my mailing list members to find out about new work before it is added to the Shop. However, without wishing to overload your inbox with email updates, you can find me and my latest work as it happens on either Facebook or Instagram - just search for @pocolocostudios and you´ll find me there!
  • Do you do special commissions?
I welcome discussions with collectors looking for something specifically designed for them and have completed quite a number over the years. The important thing to note is that whatever you might be looking for, it will be created in my style - seeing something on here you like but maybe it needs to be bigger or a different palette of colours is a good starting point. Every artist's style is uniquely their own, usually crafted over many years. Therefore, I will not try to recreate something inspired by other artists' work - there is a line! Talking ideas through is always the best option so please do get in touch and perhaps send a photo of the location you have in mind to display the piece. This helps me to better understand the scale, style and colour theme.
