¨To paint is to feel freedom in it´s purest form¨

The busy world rarely offers us the chance to stop and pause.  Art encourages us to slow down by drawing us in to look more deeply into its story told through texture, colour and composition.  It´s arts ability to do this that excites me and drives me on to keep exploring, growing and creating in the hope of discovering something new and beautiful.  Art helps us to connect more deeply with ourselves. That´s why owning original art and surrounding ourselves with it is so important, a treasured companion for many years to come.

My process is very organic starting by loosely adding paint without any specific idea in mind.  I love listening to instrumental music which helps me to relax into a quiet state.  It´s surprising how much this can influence the pace and style of application from quiet, slow and soft to bold, wild and deliberate marks.  Although the colours, composition and style in my work can be different, there is a sense of something familiar which connects them.   The same hand behind the movements and marks is recognizable as the contemporary abstract expressionist voice embedded within them.

The initial layers start to give clues as to where they might like to go.  By intuitively following these little prompts, its story begins.  Although many of the early stages are covered over, I always leave a little so that its journey is never forgotten and can be retraced.  Each stage plays an important part in the making and so deserves to be celebrated in the final piece.

Over the last 7 years my studio practice has developed, experimenting with materials, printmaking, collage work, exploring and discovering new processes and playing with colour.

My paintings are now owned across the world and have been awarded recognition from international art magazine Art & Color 365 during 2023, 2024 & 2025

Art is more than colours on a canvas.  It´s an emotional expression of the soul laid out as something more tangible and tactile for all to see and experience for themselves.  It´s a silent conversation between the artist, the work and the viewer.  It is energy, not only because of the skillful application of materials, but through the thoughts which are woven in between the layers leading the way to its final form.

I was born in 1972 and educated in the UK including attending the Gloucester College of Art. Although I was always found furiously sketching growing up, I also had a gift with numbers and so a successful 20+ year career in the commercial financial world followed.  A chance meeting reconnected me with my first love after 15 years in 2008 which resulted in a move to Cadiz in 2011.

I turned to art and creating again as a way to heal from a period of grief.  Since 2017, I have been furiously creating, investing long hours honing skills and through sharing my work, have attracted collectors world-wide.

I believe that art isn´t just a nice to  have.  It is a vitally important part of human expression and therefore, a necessity.

My lifelong passion for the great outdoors often features along with semi-abstract figurative work to express my views about the importance of human connection.  Whatever the subject, my expressionist style captures the emotions and a sense of movement.  My artwork creates good conversation and so it is more than simply something colourful on the wall, it becomes a part of who we are.

Showcasing works initially in watercolours, my art evolved and now my preference is mixed media including acrylics, collage, oil pastel and gold leaf. Over the years, I have showcased my work in several solo exhibitions. The work is always evolving into what is now a contemporary style with a mix of semi-abstract figurative and varied landscape work inspired by the places I have seen and enjoyed so far on my travels.

I believe that it is healthy to connect and work with other artists and to celebrate this,  exhibited as part of a collective  in Cadiz in spring, 2023.

I enjoy preparing commissioned pieces for interior designers, private clients and working on new collections.  I feel privileged to be here and to enjoy my beautiful studio/gallery  15 minutes walk from my front door near Medina Sidonia.

I love meeting people and showing them around the studio but its always better by appointment so that I can clean up a little first!  If you are local and are interested in visiting, I´d love to hear from you - just scroll down and send me a personal message.
